History
of Kuhn Employment Opportunities
Kuhn
Employment Opportunities was
established in 1962 as a private nonprofit organization to
provide
people with disabilities the opportunity to participate in
employment. Mr. Ernest B. Kuhn, a local Meriden businessperson,
responded to the need he saw for continued training for individuals
with developmental disabilities. Mr. Kuhn believed that
this training would allow these individuals to actively participate in
the world of work. A workshop that provided light assembly, packaging and
mailing services was established in Meriden with the help of many area volunteers.
Mr. Kuhn and his dedicated friends assisted countless individuals
as they moved from
the workshop into outside employment in local business and industry.
Today, Kuhn
provides employment assistance to more than 300 participants annually with developmental disabilities, mental illness and
physical disabilities. Our Executive Director, Robert Stephens, has led our
organizational development with the support and
assistance of a volunteer Board of
Directors.
