Record Breaking Day! The Silver Lake Paddle Sport Event was held on October 8, 2023. The event raised $1,440.00 as a donation to Kuhn Employment Opportunities. Kuhn is located in Meriden on Silver Lake. This non-profit organization has a full array of services that assist adults with disabilities to become valued, independent and proud members of our community through employment and day support services.
There was a record number of paddlers that entered the event this year. Over 70 paddlers raced the 5-mile course. Many different paddle craft were represented. There were kayaks, canoes, surf skis, outrigger canoes and a majority of paddlers were on stand up paddleboards. An additional 19 paddlers participated in “Kayak for Candy.” These paddlers trick or treated around the lake stopping at various docks to receive candy. The event would not be possible without the many volunteers that helped with
safety boats, candy passing, registration and timing. The Silver Lake dock owners also helped make the event a success. Many thanks to all the local sponsors; Mule Security & Electric, Jonal Laboratories, Costco, Target and Mickey Finn’s.
